Jericocoara, Brazil - February 2002 Visited an amazing spot named Jericocoara with an Israeli chap named Alon, largely on the basis of a picture we saw - it took 48hrs by boat, buses and a sort of dune buggy for 20 people. During this period Alon ensured the words "this better be fuckin good, Mike" will be carved on his tombstone many years hence. Jericocoara is... sand dunes onto a beach listed in the worlds top ten, chilled as a fish in space, and very good for the body and soul. As you might imagine this place provided an open invitation to eat some more sand while flailing aimlessly down a dune with my feet stuck to a plank of wood. I suspect in past years the Arabs tortured people this way, so as a precaution I donned a kafia and some ray bans (this may be a lie). After a few attempts to get up for sunrise boarding failed narrowly (by around 6 hours), the holy grail was reached by the old don't go to bed Tactic. In fact things got rather active on the whole as a schedule developed of 6am boarding, swimming, fruit devouring, sleeping, swimming again, capoeria lesson 1, boarding at sunset, capoeria lesson 2, eat, sleep, go out at 2am .... return to stage one. phew! Capoeira is great... it's a martial art disguised as dance and really uses all your muscles as well as having some funky tunes. So, all in all great fun, what a place and finished up with a full moon over the dune and a tear in my left nostril as I left for the city once more. One surreal moment worth mentioning was when we went by sunset at this lookout in the company of 15 Brazilian missionaries and Nynke and elfenesque dutch girl... I spent the entire time looking around for the tv cameraman to jump out laughing hysterically!
